Hotel Dieu Launches New Site
The recent announcement of the proposal to restructure Cornwall's hospitals has generated considerable discussion in and outside of the community. There is now a new resource available for residents to review the proposal in detail and provide feedback. The RHSJ Health Centre of Cornwall has launched a new website that offers information not only about the proposal, but also about Hotel Dieu Hospital and St. Joseph's Villa.
"We felt it was important to provide as much information to the public as possible, and the Internet is an excellent tool in that regard," said Jeanette Despatie, Executive Director. "People can log on to the site at their leisure, and read both current and recent information on any new announcements. We are also interested in what issues are important to the community, and there is a form on the site that invites people to share their thoughts with us."
The site offers more than just information on the Alternative Services Proposal. In addition to listing the services available at the hospital, the site also has several interesting stories about the history of The Religious Hospitallers of St. Joseph in Cornwall, along with information about a number of different fundraising efforts that are ongoing.
Perhaps the most exciting part of the site is the News section, which promises to keep the community up-to-date on recent events in and outside of the hospital, such as the appointment of a new chairperson for the Joint Executive Committee.

Carnival 2001 launches website
Carnival 2001 information is now just a mouse click away. WEBtech has designed a web site for Cornwall's favourite winter celebration that features a complete schedule of festival events, current carnival news and a photo gallery. It will be updated throughout the carnival.
Carnival 2001 begins Tuesday, February 6 and continues to February 11. The week long festival features everything from fashion shows, to teen dances, glittering ice sculptures, skating in Lamoureux Park, a 60 foot volcano, Carnival Centre for children and seniors, and fun and entertainment for all.
WEBtech joined partners with RE/MAX Cornwall to become the principal sponsor of the festival. The two firms combined resources and launched the huge snow structure that will showcase Ice Age Rocks, the dinosaur theme of this year's event.

WEBtech and RE/MAX Partner to Sponsor Carnival 2001
Carnival 2001 has just received an enormous boost. Two local companies have announced their intention to become the principal sponsors of this year's event.
RE/MAX Cornwall Realty and WEBtech have agreed to share the sponsorship thus ensuring that the popular winter festival will be presented as planned. The two firms are Chamber members and former Business Excellence award winners.
"Carnival has proven itself to be an outstanding winter and it's important that the tradition continues", stated Jamie Cameron and Terry Landon, co-owners of RE/MAX Cornwall. "Along with our office, each of our agents is making a personal contribution and RE/MAX, Ontario/Atlantic Canada is playing a sizeable role as well. It's become a team effort, and we're pleased that WEBtech has agreed to partner with us."
WEBtech's Peter Gault echoed the RE/MAX enthusiasm. "The public response to Carnival made this an easy decision for us", said Peter Gault, company owner. "When RE/MAX asked if we would be interested in rounding out their team, we didn't hesitate. We're determined to do our part to make this year's event is the best ever."
Earlier this month, Carnival 2001 organizers had put out an urgent call for sponsors to salvage the event. The response was swift in coming from local firms and individuals who wanted to see the popular winter festival continue. "The response has been terrific", reports Carnival 2001 Organizing Committee Chair Rick Shaver. "We've had a number of firms and individuals who have offered to help out. It's a wonderful testament to the kind of people that make up the City."
The financial support flowing from the community means that Carnival 2001 will not only be presented as planned, Organizers are now confident it will one of the best ever.
Huron Launches Scores with New Web Site!
The City of Cornwall will soon be home to a summer residency hockey program, following the signing of a three year agreement between Huron Hockey School and NAV Canada conference and training centre. On-ice training will be held at the 3,900 seat Ed Lumley Arena.
Paul O'Dacre, Huron's Chief Operating Officer, was very enthusiastic about the partnership. "It'll be the best residence camp we have, without a doubt. Most of the resident students will be coming from the U.S. and Europe, and we're confident they'll be extremely impressed with all facilities, and our line-up of instructors," stated O'Dacre.
Speaking of instructors, how would you like getting hockey tips from this crew.. Marc Crawford, Head Coach of the Vancouver Canucks; Ray Sheppard, Carolina Hurricanes; local Chad Kilger, Edmonton Oilers; local John Markell, Head Coach, Ohio State University; Greg Drechsel, Pro Scout, LA Kings; Dan D'Aoust, Coach, Swiss Elite League and former NHL Star; Stan Butler, Head Coach, Brampton Battalion of the OHL, and Paul Fixter, Assistant Coach, Colorado Avalanche, among a list of other reputable hockey professionals.
For the girl's hockey camp, the list is equally impressive... local 1997 and 1999 World Hockey Champion Lori Dupuis, and her Canadian teammate Jayna Hefford, as well as 1998 Olympic Champion Sue Merz of the U.S.
Huron is also sponsoring a Coaches Level 1 Clinic (July 29 to August 2, NAV Canada), and a week long pro-players camp (August 15-20, Ed Lumley Arena), shortly before National Hockey League training camps open. Ottawa Senators Head Coach Jacques Martin and his assistants staff are confirmed for the coaching clinic. The pro camp, which will consist primarily of NHL first and second round draft picks, is a program that was moved from Toronto to Cornwall and will be headed by former NHL Coach Ted Sator.
You can receive further information by calling the Huron Hockey School office at (613) 933-2582 or by visiting their web site at www.huronhockey.com

Is Cornwall Eastern Ontario's best performing economy?
Ok, you won't see our fair city featured in any of the
James Bond movies (yet), but it is clear that Cornwall is
earning a wide reputation as a world class city - and
one with a hot economy to boot.
Activity on the city's web site has exploded, with visitors
downloading an average of 6700 pages of information per
month in 1998, an increase of 52% compared to 1997. As always
over 80% of the traffic is external to the city, and much
of it is made up of American and European business decision makers.
One of the reasons which make the site a worthwhile stop is
its delivery of timely business news. A highlight this year
is Paul Fitzpatrick's (Manager of Economic Development) Year
in Review report, which outlines over $150 million of new
development, expansions and growth in 1998.

Pommier Jewellers' New Site a Diamond in the Rough
"Leave Cornwall with a little gold in your pocket" is a
marketing phrase that Pommier Jewellers has used for the past
year. Slightly whimsical, it matches the mood that you'll find
in this award-winning goldsmith's store, where outstanding
customer service is matched only by the quality of the goods
in the display cases. Now on-line with a sharp-looking web site,
Andre Pommier has a long term vision for the integration of
on-line and traditional marketing activities. "Our family has been
in the jewellery business for over 60 years, and we have always
had loyal customers from outside this region. With the internet
however, we have the opportunity to truly expand our markets,
while at the same time letting our existing customers know what is
going on in the store, such as new product announcements and
special sales". You can check out the Pommier website at

Excellence Awards and the subsequent naming of the local
real estate office as Cornwall Business of the Year for
1997.
"RE/MAX has become a highly regarded organization in the
region,
for both their community work and business excellence",
said Peter Gault, Treasurer of the
Chamber. "The office has consisently led their market
in many key categories and both Terry Landon and Jamie
Cameron are two of Cornwall's biggest promoters, both on
and off the golf course".
"This award really belongs to our staff and our clients, for
our success is a testament to their loyalty, trust
and continued goodwill", commented an eloquent Jamie Cameron

owner. "But of course we have many more services and products
to offer, and the web site will allow our customers to do
a little bit of shopping on-line before visiting the store".
Raymonde notes that the Cornwall store can arrange for flowers
to be delivered in almost any town or city, often at better savings

hotel's rooms, meeting and banquet facilities, restaurant,
pool and fitness area.
"We have hosted visitors from around the world in the past
several months, so it makes sense to develop a web site",
says Scott Lecky, General Manager. "Visitors can now check
out the hotel before they make a reservation, determine what
special services they may require, and leave on their trip
happy that there will be no surprises at the end of the road."
A special feature of the site is a section called "Scotty Recommends",
where Scott makes his picks about the best of local events
and attractions. You can see for yourself by visiting:
